Dear all!

This week marks the end of our ten weeks training. We learned many interestng things as far as TECHNOLOGY is concerned in relation to language Learning and teaching.  I found all the topics covered very interestng and also very helpful for my classes. The use of technology Tools helps save time and facilitates the tasks both for the students and the teacher. These technology Tools help the learner  be really involved in the Learning process which will lead to autonomy. I learned about ABCD objectives which is important before any teaching to take place. I learned about different types of assessment, types of learners, etc.
I found the topics about ABCD objectives, Reading/Writing websites and technology-enhanced lessons, Learner styles: technology connections, Academic blogs an Nicenet discussions very successfull.  All of them are really ueful for me. The technology Tools that I will use are academic blogs, E-mails (through Nicenet that I 've already started using with my students), using websites and technology-enhanced lessons.
This course (Webskills) was demanding some basic knowledge of computer science. I thought it would be good if some notions were given before the begnning of the program. It is true that all participants do not have the same difficulties.
In addition, the use of technology should be integrated in language Learning where this does not exist. But the difficulties in some places like ours make it difficult so that we need to apply it with other plans: one computer classroom, audio devices use and others.

Many thanks to all for sharing your experiences. Special thanks to DONNA who really devoted her time and energy for us. Thank you Donna.

Week 9 Webskills reflection

Dear all,

Unbelievable but real! We are almost done with this course which was not sure many weeks ago. Thanks to God and everyone's support we are still there. This week we read about Multiple intelligences and types of learners. This issue is very important for teachers because knowing what kind of learners our students are help us be efficient in our teaching. In other words this means that we are engaging all learners by varying our teaching. And we should also make sure to balance some elements such active and reflective Learning. So we must not forget that there are differences between learners. The hard task for this week was integrating feedback to improve the final project report and sending it on time. I thank Donna for her support because my group members were not ready.
After the reading I participated in the discussion on Nicenet, posted my comments and ended the week with the blog and posted comments in a course participant blog.

See you for the last week

Dear all,

We are approaching to the end of this course and at the same time we will stop receiving technology resources from Donna. But we are Lucky because what we gained is very important in terms of content that is already benefiting to our students. This week there were many things to do on, Nicenet and mainly sending the Project draft to partners and sending also feedback to peers. I created a Nicenet class where students can find assignments, discussion topics and also post their thouhts.
The different tasks allowed me to master some interesting points about computer science and also about networking.

Dear all,

End of week 7. We are coming closely to the end of this course and by the way the date for the first draft of the final project.
As for this week, the reading was basically on Learner Autonomy. These articles are very interesting because they tell us about the importance of centering learning on the learner. The learner participation in the learning is very determinant for his/her success. As defined by Holec 1981 learner autonomy is"the ability to take charge of one's own learning"
To add the teacher must help the learner with strategies (cognitive or metacognitive), help define learning objectives and goals. I posted my comments on participant discussions in nicenet and blogs.
The hard task of the week was the completion of project plan. It is hard due to school and extra school activities.
I think that this project will bring interest for students as far as their motivation is concerned. I think they could start developing personal initiative in their learning process after this project.

Dear all,

We are at the end of week 6 and I think we learned interesing theoritical things and also some practical things with the creation of the interactive powerpoint. the different readings informed us on interesting points on teaching large classes by using technology. After that we read others posts and also posted our comments in Nicenet and started implementing the technology suggested. I think the implementation is going well and I hope that my students will appreciate the activity after it comes for them to give their impressions, thoughts and maybe suggestions.
If I succeed in this I think that it will be at the same time an importunity to Schedule it as a usual method in conducting my teching and beyond all the other colleagues in my school and in the whole city.

Dear all,

Week 5 has gone and we are now tackling week 6. I am still struggling to keep on with the week Schedule because an internet cable brokedown in my area and it causes troubles as far as internet access is concerned.
There were a lot of things to do and we can now say that time is really difficult to manage with other daily acivities. I discoered many new things with WebQuest, the different types of Rubrics, alternative assessment. Next I created a rubric on an oral activity, a WebQuest. In addition I participated in the different discussions on nicenet, commented other posts and blogs.
What I can say is that every week I learn new things that will positively influence my teaching.
Thank you all of you for your encouraging words.

week 4 blog

Dear all!

This week was very hard for me not only in terms of work to do but mostly technology problems. I spent almost the whole week without good internet connexion necessary to do my tasks. I hope you did not face the same situation. That is why I am obliged to finish my week 4 in the beginning of week 5. I think Donna will understand my sufferings.

Concerning this week, I started by reading the recommended readings that was mainly about using the internet in ESL. We noticed through the different texts how using for example e-mails can motivate students in their Learning. By the way on Tuesday I did a Survey in my class to see how many students have access to the internet at least once a week. And the answer is the following: of the 65 students only 19 have access to the internet on a weekly basis. And within the 19; about 15 have got functioning e-mails. And I think that this already an example of how I will apply what I am Learning in my teaching. During this week I started sensitizing my students again how they can improve their language level by using technology even at home using their mobile phones, TV, etc. I gave them at the same time the BBC and the VOA wesites. To remind we do news review per groups twice a week.
After the readings, I posted my lesson plan, commented other mates posts, describe my class problems on nicenet, and now ending with my blog. I attended a two days training on football as a refferee. Just to tell you that I am also a refferee.

Week 3 reflection

Hello to all!
Ouph! Time is running. Week 3 already finished but it was a worky one.

I hope that I finally find the right way to update my blog.  I struggled more than a whole week to succeed. And this is part of technology I think.

Now to come up with the week blog firstly I read the different resources for reading assigned to us:  Aural/Oral Skills, Teaching Listening Skills, The Employment of CALL in Teaching Second/Foreign language Skills by Julia Gong.
I also visited some English Learning sites. All of these in a peak priod of school activities: tests, marking, planning lessons, extra school activities, etc.
This week I posted the discussions, discovered Delicious for the first time, read and commented on a Sample project report. This one inspires me and I hope this model will help me in my final project.

What I learned this week is considerable. Through the reading I learned that there are many ways to help students or learners improve their listening skills. For example by giving them some techniques. There are also resources for teachers mainly through the use of CALL. The use of CALL creates new Learning environment and motivation for learners.

The way materials are presented is very helpful in teaching.. we can use the sites to plan our lessons, to find exercises for students. And concerning technology the example of the use of e-mails, nicenet, Skype in the sample project report can be exploited to introduce technology for teaching purpose where internet and other related equipments are available. But where technology is not available other techniques can be thought of.

Dear all,
This is my very first time to create a blog and I feel very happy too because I have added today some new skills in my knowledge of computer science. For this I have to thank those who give me this opportunity that is to say the University of Oregon. What I learned is that next time it will be easy for me to create a blog. Even now with the instructions it wasn't difficult for me to create my blog. But next time I do not need intructions again.
Using blogs for class has many advantages. First of all blogs give the possibility to discover more resources concerning English through the internet. In addition, blogs allow online exchange both between students themselves on what they did in class and also between students and their teachers. Secondly blogs can help students remember their assignments and also serve for a basis of self-study resource. Finally, a blog can be created by and for the whole class to serve as a record of what students did in class especially discussion topics and also to share with other classmates in other countries where they have friends.
Using blogs for class is very interesting for this can develop students' will to learn but I fear this could work everywhere due to local realities. In my case for example the students level in using the internet is not good. This is due to the problem of availability and training. Even some teachers do not use the internet either because they do not have access to it or they did not have training. So I can create a blog for my class but the students will get problems to use it. That's why I think that we can still develop other efficient ways for teachers in addition this course.
